This seems to be a design kind of week. This is my first real attempt at doing face replacement in Photoshop. I put my mug into a TRON image. Yes, I’m a huge geek (follow my tumblr thing and you’ll see that pretty quick).
Anyway, I like it but I’m not totally crazy about how it looks - a little too Photoshopped and “smooth” - it was really hard to get the lighting and shadows on my face to appear similar to the original. But it was good practice. So I’m sure I’ll do more stuff.
I look forward to doing some more writing. I’ve got a couple sci-fi story ideas bouncing around my head, so I bet I’ll feel inspired soon and start putting them down here.
This week I designed a new poster campaign for my improv team LOKI (http://west.ioimprov.com/io/teams/45). It was a lot of fun to do. I recently took another design class so I was trying to implement some of the stuff I learned.
I wanted to create a campaign that was simple and eye catching, that kept our established branding, and that mixed improv (we’re an improv team) and Viking stuff (we’re called Loki). So this is what I created. I did six in all, here are a few. Generally it’s gotten positive feedback, so that’s nice.
Tonight a friend and I made a giant viking helmet for our improv team LOKI (http://west.ioimprov.com/io/teams/45). It’s about 5 feet across. We made it out of posterboard, construction paper, markers, glue and tape. (oh and paper towel tubes for support.)
We’re going to hang the helmet above the stage as part of the decorations our team is doing when we host the night of performances tomorrow night. Loki is the Norse god of mischief, so we try to be Nordic when we can. I also made about a dozen helmets, axes, torches and such out of construction papers and markers.
